On the deformation quantization of coadjoint orbits of semisimple groups.

Abstract: In this paper we consider the problem of deformation quantization of the algebra of polynomial functions on coadjoint orbits of semisimple lie groups. The deformation of an orbit is realized by taking the quotient of the universal enveloping algebra of the Lie algebra of the given Lie group, by a suitable ideal. A comparison with geometric quantization in the case of SU(2) is done where both methods agree.

The authors construct a deformation quantization for the algebra of polynomial functions on coadjoint orbits of semisimple Lie groups. Kontsevich's formality theorem states the existence of a star product for any Poisson manifold. As a special case of his general construction, Kontsevich also gives an explicit star product for the algebra of polynomials on the dual of a Lie algebra; note that this case was in fact already known [see (\textit{S. Gutt}, Lett. Math. Phys. 7, 249--258 (1983; Zbl 0522.58019)]. However, the existence of a star product on a certain domain gives no knowledge in general for star products on subdomains. In this paper, the authors study deformation quantization for coadjoint orbits of semisimple Lie groups. They construct a deformation in terms of a quotient of the enveloping algebra by an ideal. This construction is independent of coordinates. Finally, a comparison with the results obtained in geometric quantization is investigated in the case of SU(2).
