On the rigidity of translated points
The authors show that there exist contact isotopies of the standard contact sphere which have no translated points and whose time-1 maps are close to the identity with respect to the Shelukhin-Hofer distance \(\operatorname{dist}_\alpha\). A translated point of a contactomorphism \(\psi\) for a contact form \(\alpha\) is a point \(x\) belonging to the set \(\Sigma=\) \(\left\{x:\left(\psi^* \alpha\right)_x=\alpha_x\right\}\) where \(x\) and \(\psi(x)\) lie on the same trajectory of the Reeb vector field \(R^\alpha\) satisfying \(\alpha\left(R^\alpha\right)=1\) and \(\mathrm{d} \alpha\left(R^\alpha,-\right)=0\). A translated point is regarded as a contact analogue of a fixed point [\textit{S. Sandon}, Ann. Inst. Fourier 61, No. 1, 145--185 (2011; Zbl 1222.53091)]. \N\NRecall that the minimal period of a closed Reeb orbit for the standard contact form is \(1\).The main result of the paper is as follows:\N\NMain Theorem. For any \(\epsilon>0\), there exist contact isotopies \(\psi_t\) of \(S^{2 n+1}\), \(n \geq 1\), with its standard contact structure, whose time-1 maps have no translated points relative the standard contact form \(\alpha\), and which satisfy:\N\[\N 2 \inf _{s \in \mathbb{R}} \operatorname{dist}_\alpha\left(\psi_1, R_s^\alpha\right)<1+\epsilon.\N\]\NThe theorem means that \textit{E. Shelukhin}'s result [J. Symplectic Geom. 15, No. 4, 1173--1208 (2017; Zbl 1391.53090)] is optimal, that is, it cannot be improved without further hypotheses. The map \(\psi_t\) is constructed as a composition \(\psi_t=\kappa_t \gamma_t\) where \(\gamma_t\) is a specific focusing contact isotopy whose scaling-factor- 1 set \(\Sigma\) concentrates near a single point \(\zeta\) on \(S^{2 n+1}\) and whose image \(\gamma_1(\Sigma)\) is arbitrarily close to the antipodal point \(-\zeta\), and \(\kappa_t\) is a strict contact isotopy which displaces \(-\zeta\) from the Reeb orbit through \(\zeta\).
