On universal subspaces for Lie groups
The article studies universal subspaces in finite-dimensional representations of connected Lie groups. Given a representation of a Lie group \(G\) on a vector space \(U\), a linear subspace \(V\subset U\) is called universal if every orbit of the action of \(G\) on \(U\) intersects \(V\). This concept appears in several classical situations, such as Schur's triangularization theorem and properties of adjoint representations of compact Lie groups. The main goal of the paper is to understand when a subspace is universal and how this property relates to topological invariants of vector bundles naturally associated with the representation.
