Open problems on relations of numerical semigroups

From MaRDI portal

This is a nice expository article that compiles open problems related to minimal presentations of numerical semigroups. A numerical semigroup \(\Gamma \subseteq \mathbb{N}\) is an additive submonoid such that \(\mathbb{N} - \Gamma\) is finite. The study of minimal presentations of a numerical semigroup is equivalent to studying the generators of the ideal of the local semigroup ring \(k\Gamma=k[[t^{\gamma} \; \mid \gamma \in \Gamma]] \subseteq kt\). The article also presents the open problems about the associated graded ring of the local ring \(k\Gamma\) and very little is known about the Betti numbers of this ring. The article brings together old and new open problems, from Bresinsky's conjecture about the minimal presentations of symmetric semigroups to Rossi's conjecture about the Hilbert function of the local ring corresponding to a symmetric numerical semigroup and to Wilf's conjecture about the Frobenius number of a numerical semigroup.\N\NFor the entire collection see [Zbl 1566.16001].
