Optimal control and dynamics of tuberculosis evolution: insights from a reaction-diffusion model
This work develops and studies a mathematical model describing the spread of tuberculosis, including a spatial description with diffusive movement of individuals, leading to a system of reaction-diffusion equations. The model also includes control of the disease, both through vaccination of susceptible individuals and through treatment of infected individuals. An optimal control problem is formulated, aiming to minimize a cost functional taking into account the cost of disease and of control efforts. Existence of a solution to the optimal control problem is proved, and a first-order necessary condition for the optimal control is derived. Computational results of the uncontrolled and controlled epidemic are presented.\N\NFor the entire collection see [Zbl 1567.92005].
