Optimal information for approximating periodic analytic functions

From MaRDI portal

The authors start by considering a strip \(S_\beta:= \{z\in\mathbb{Z}: |\text{Im }z|< \beta\}\) in the complex plane. For an integer \(r\geq 0\) let \(H^r_{\infty,\beta}\) be the class of \(2\pi\)-periodic functions \(f\) which are analytic in \(S_\beta\) and satisfy \(|f^{(r)}(z)|\leq 1\) in \(S_\beta\). Given a function \(f\in H^r_{\infty,\beta}\) they try to recover \(f(\zeta)\) at a fixed point \(\zeta\in\mathbb{R}\) by an algorithm on the basis of the information of the \(2n-1\) first Fourier coefficients of \(f\) in its standard \(2\pi\)-Fourier expansion. The authors prove several deep (but quite technical) positive and negative results on the optimal information error and sampling error for this and related problems.
