Orbits of Hermann actions

From MaRDI portal

Given compact symmetric pairs \((G,K_1)\) and \((G,K_2)\), the action of \(K_2\) on \(G/K_1\) is called a Hermann action. Hermann actions are examples of hyperpolar actions. Furthermore, Kollross proved that hyperpolar actions on compact symmetric spaces are either Hermann actions or cohomogeneity one actions. In this article the authors represent parallel translations of normal bundles of the orbit of Hermann actions on compact symmetric spaces by the group actions (Theorem 2.1). A main consequence is Corollary 2.13 where they prove that the mean curvature vector of any orbit of a hyperpolar action on a compact symmetric space is parallel with respect to the normal connection.
