Output frequencies of nonlinear systems
The class of nonlinear systems which are stable at the zero equilibrium point and which can be described in the neighborhood of the equilibrium point by the following Volterra series \[ y(t)= \prod^N_{n=1} \int^\infty_{-\infty} \cdots \int^\infty_{-\infty} h_n (\tau_1, \dots, \tau_n) \prod^N_{i=1} u(t- \tau_i) d\tau_i \] is considered. The general relationship between the input and output frequency ranges of nonlinear systems, which has an explicit form similar to the result of the linear case and which can then be applied directly, is studied by deriving an explicit expression for the non-negative output frequency range of the nonlinear systems under general inputs. Numerical simulations of known results provided the needed insight about how the output frequency ranges are composed in a general way. This helps in a subsequent theoretical study. At the end, simulation examples are given to confirm the theoretical results obtained in the paper.
