Persistence and Ball Exponents for Gaussian Stationary Processes

From MaRDI portal

Abstract: Consider a real Gaussian stationary process fho, indexed on either mathbbR or mathbbZ and admitting a spectral measure ho. We study hetahoell=−limlimitsToinftyfrac1TlogmathbbPleft(inftin[0,T]fho(t)>ellight), the persistence exponent of fho. We show that, if ho has a positive density at the origin, then the persistence exponent exists; moreover, if ho has an absolutely continuous component, then hetahoell>0 if and only if this spectral density at the origin is finite. We further establish continuity of hetahoell in ell, in ho (under a suitable metric) and, if ho is compactly supported, also in dense sampling. Analogous continuity properties are shown for psihoell=−limlimitsToinftyfrac1TlogmathbbPleft(inftin[0,T]|fho(t)|leellight), the ball exponent of fho, and it is shown to be positive if and only if ho has an absolutely continuous component.
