Plane strain problems for thermo-flexoelectric solids

From MaRDI portal

The authors present exact solutions to three static, plane strain problems of coupled thermo-flexoelectricity for the infinite strip, the hollow cylinder, and the cylindrical inclusion embedded in an infinite flexoelectric medium. Interactions are not restricted to the coupling between strain gradient and electric field. In the first two problems, the unknown functions depend only on one spatial coordinate.\N\NIn the present approach, the temperature field is decoupled from the electro-mechanical problem, and thus allows for the determination of the temperature independently from the other unknowns of the problem. The classical Fourier law of heat conduction is used to derive the heat conduction equation.\N\NA variety of mechanical, electric, and thermal boundary conditions is used. The study involves the use of Green function technique.\N\NA mixed finite element method, including thermal coupling and Lagrange's multipliers, is developed for this class of problems, and the numerical solutions are validated against the analytical solutions of the three above-mentioned problems. Good agreement is reached in all three cases.\N\NFor the considered concrete numerical examples, the distributions of electric potential and electric field are plotted and discussed in detail.
