The author establishes relations between Kirchhoff, Reissner, and Mindlin plate theories by considering the corresponding constitutive equations. Using boundary coordinates, he presents fundamental solutions for a unit point load and for a unit couple. Especially, the author shows that the proposed boundary element method allows that the shear deformation effect can be ``switched on or off easily.
