Positive del Pezzo geometry

From MaRDI portal

This article explores positive geometry by uniting real, complex, and tropical algebraic methods to study del Pezzo surfaces and their moduli spaces. The authors investigate the polygonal subdivisions of general real del Pezzo surfaces, systematically classifying the distinct polygons -- such as triangles, quadrilaterals, and pentagons -- that form their connected components. By analyzing these very affine varieties, the study elegantly connects them to solutions for likelihood equations in statistics and scattering equations in theoretical physics.\N\NFurthermore, the text introduces the concept of \textit{pezzotopes}, which describe the curvy connected components of the moduli spaces and are deeply associated with Weyl groups of type \(E_6\) and \(E_7\). Through a combination of numerical computations and tropical likelihood degenerations, the researchers verify their theoretical frameworks and explore the topological invariants of these complex geometric structures. They compute the exact Euler characteristics for specific moduli spaces and establish rigorous bounds for higher-dimensional cases where exact computations become highly complex.
