Boundary value problems for second-order elliptic equations (35J25) Numerical computation of matrix norms, conditioning, scaling (65F35) Boundary element methods for boundary value problems involving PDEs (65N38) Multigrid methods; domain decomposition for boundary value problems involving PDEs (65N55)
The paper deals with asymptotically almost optimal preconditioning techniques for the solution of coupled elliptic problems with piecewise continuous coefficients. The authors propose and analyze spectrally equivalent, two- and multilevel interface preconditioners. Strongly elliptic skew-symmetric problems and symmetric, positive definite variational problems are considered.
