Principles of abrasive water jet machining

From MaRDI portal

This timely and authoritive work on abrasive water jet machining was written for researchers and practical engineers who are interested in this non-traditional manufacturing method for application in their field. The text is divided into ten chapters. The introduction deals with a classification of high-speed fluid jets, and describes state-of-the-art applications of the water jet technique. The following chapters discuss a broad range of issues including classification and characterization of abrasive materials; generation of abrasive water jets; structure and hydrodynamics of abrasive water jets; material removal mechanisms in abrasive water jet machining; modelling of abrasive water jet cutting process; process parameter optimization; geometry, topography and integrity of abrasive water jet machined parts; alternative machining operations with abrasive water jet, and control and supervision of abrasive water jet machining process. Drawings, graphs and tables, many of which are published for the first time, complete the text. Although abrasive jet machining was introduced into the manufacturing about ten years ago, the list of references includes 387 publications. This extensive and up-to-date book should be on the bookshelf of engineers and scientists engaged in laboratory research and industrial practices of this fast developing field.
