Probability theory and inferential statistics
The book provides a clear introduction into the fundamentals of probability theory and statistics. Apart from the introduction (Chapter 0), it consists of seven chapters: Zufallsvorgänge und Wahrscheinlichkeiten (random events and probability), Zufallsvariable und Verteilungen (random variable and distributions), Gemeinsame Verteilung und Grenzwertsätze (joint probability and limit theorems), Stichproben und Stichprobenfunktionen (samples and functions on samples), Schätzverfahren für Parameter (methods of parameter estimation), Hypothesentests (hypothesis testing) and Lineare Regression (linear regression). The book is based on several lecture courses which were held for students of economy and social sciences. It is well written and contains many calculated examples, often motivated by problems from economy and the social sciences. Additional exercises can be downloaded from a website of the authors.
