Prox-regular sweeping processes with bounded retraction

From MaRDI portal

The authors study the prox-regular sweeping process\N\[\Ny'(t) \in -N_{C(t)} (y(t)) \text{ for almost all } t \in [0,\infty),\N\]\N\[\Ny(t) \in C(t) \text{ for all } t \in [0,\infty),\N\]\N\[\Ny(0)=\text{Proj}_{C(0)} (y_0)\N\]\Nin a real Hilbert space when the moving set has locally bounded retraction. \(N_{C(t)}(y(t))\) is the exterior normal cone to \(C(t)\) at \(y(t)\) and\N\[\N\text{Proj}_{C(0)} (y_0)=\left\{x : ||x-y_{0}|| =\inf_{z \in C(0)} ||z-y_{0}||\right\}.\N\]\NFirst, the process in which the moving set is assumed to be Lipschitz continuous with respect to the excess is considered. (The excess is a type of measure of distance.) The coefficient of prox-regularity is assumed to be larger than any jumps in the moving set. Existence and uniqueness of solutions are proven using the ``catching-up algorithm (an implicit discretization method) from [\textit{J. J. Moreau}, J. Differ. Equations 26, 347--374 (1977; Zbl 0356.34067)]. Then, existence and uniqueness for solutions of the general prox-regular sweeping process are proven by reducing it to the Lipschitz case through applying the reparametrization technique of \textit{V. Recupero} [J. Convex Anal. 27, No. 2, 535--556 (2020; Zbl 1444.34075)] adapted to prox-regular set valued functions.
