Band asymptotics with nonsmooth potentials
Let \(S^ n\) be the n-dimensional sphere with its canonical Riemannian metric and \(\Delta\) the corresponding Laplace operator. If q is a real- valued function on \(S^ n\), we can consider the selfadjoint operator \(S=\Delta +q\). For the particular case when q is smooth, \textit{A. Weinstein} [Duke Math. J. 44, 883-892 (1977; Zbl 0385.58013)] proved a very nice theorem concerning the asymptotic behaviour of S. In the paper under review using the technique of symbol calculus the author gives a generalization of Weinstein's theorem for the general case when q is a nonsmooth function on \(S^ n\).
