A fast iterative method for solving stationary heat conduction problems on regions partitioned into rectangles
The author presents a fast method for the numerical solution of stationary heat conduction problem on a region which can be partitioned into rectangular subregions. The author uses the ideas of substructuring technique and the special form of the arising matrices to propose the algorithms. She discusses the basic structure of the system of equations arising in substructuring and the basic ideas of the method without explicit use of the substructure-stiffness matrix. A special algorithm for matrix-vector multiplication is applied and the error estimates are presented. It is asserted that in order to save computer time, the algorithm can be carried out in parallel.
