Results presented by \textit{N. M. Missirlis} [ibid. 5, 295-302 (1987; Zbl 0626.65023)] are improved. The Gauss-Seidel iterative method is re- designed in such a way that a much higher degree of parallelism is achieved. The scheme is also suited for the block Gauss-Seidel algorithm.
