The ideas of Hermann Grassmann in the context of the mathematical and philosophical tradition since Leibniz
Ist Hermann Grassmann (1809-1877) ganz oder teilweise ein Nachfolger von Leibniz? Diese Frage wurde erstmals von A. E. Heath gestellt und bejaht. Die gründliche und ausführliche Studie des Verf. zeigt, daß dies nur bedingt richtig ist. 1. Zunächst werden die Formulierungen betreffend geometrische Charakteristik der beiden Forscher einander gegenüber gestellt mit ausführlicher Angabe des zugehörigen Schrifttums. 2. Ancestors, Antecedents, and ``Zeitgeist. Bereits von seinem Vater J. G. Grassmann beeinflußt, fußte H. Grassmanns Denken stark auf der damals aufkommenden Naturphilosophie. 3. Geometry. Nach einer ausführlichen Darlegung von Leibniz' Auffassung der Geometrie zeigt Verf., wie Grassmann, ausgehend von dessen Grundideen und in Erweiterung von diesen, zu seinem Kalkül gelangt. 4. Geometric characteristic. Darstellung von Grassmanns Kalkül, insbesondere in Hinblick auf Leibniz' Fassung. 5. Equality and difference. Diese beiden Begriffe spielen eine ausgezeichnete Rolle in Grassmanns Ausdehnungslehre. Verf. zeigt ihren geschichtlichen Ursprung.
