Trajectories connecting two events of a Lorentzian manifold in the presence of a vector field
Global differential geometry of Lorentz manifolds, manifolds with indefinite metrics (53C50) Abstract critical point theory (Morse theory, Lyusternik-Shnirel'man theory, etc.) in infinite-dimensional spaces (58E05) Variational problems in applications to the theory of geodesics (problems in one independent variable) (58E10)
The author considers \(({\mathcal M}, \langle\cdot,\cdot \rangle_L)\) a static Lorentzian manifold and introduces the functional framework to get a variational formulation of the problem of finding trajectories connecting two events of \(\mathcal M\). In order to obtain the main results, the author applies the standard critical point theory and the Ljusternik-Schnirelmann critical point theory.
