Locking and robustness in the finite element method for circular arch problem
Boundary value problems for second-order elliptic equations (35J25) Stability and convergence of numerical methods for boundary value problems involving PDEs (65N12) Finite element, Rayleigh-Ritz and Galerkin methods for boundary value problems involving PDEs (65N30) Rods (beams, columns, shafts, arches, rings, etc.) (74K10) Finite element methods applied to problems in solid mechanics (74S05)
The characterization of the locking and robustness in finite element methods for circular arch models is attempted. For the \(p\)-version method an optimal rate of convergence uniformly with respect to the arch thickness is established and the characterization of the locking effects with respect to the other versions is also discussed.
