Abstract: For a/qinmathbbQ the Estermann function is defined as D(s,a/q):=sumngeq1d(n)nsoperatornamee(nfracaq) if Re(s)>1 and by meromorphic continuation otherwise. For q prime, we compute the moments of D(s,a/q) at the central point s=1/2, when averaging over 1leqa<q. As a consequence we deduce the asymptotic for the iterated moment of Dirichlet L-functions sumchi1,dots,chikmodq|L(frac12,chi1)|2cdots|L(frac12,chik)|2|L(frac12,chi1cdotschik)|2, obtaining a power saving error term. Also, we compute the moments of certain functions defined in terms of continued fractions. For example, writing fpm(a/q):=sumj=0r(pm1)jbj where [0;b0,dots,br] is the continued fraction expansion of a/q we prove that for kgeq2 and q primes one has suma=1q1fpm(a/q)ksim2fraczeta(k)2zeta(2k)qk as qoinfty.
