Abstract: Let N be a compact, connected, non-orientable surface of genus ho with n boundary components, with hoge5 and nge0, and let mathcalM(N) be the mapping class group of N. We show that, if mathcalG is a finite index subgroup of mathcalM(N) and varphi:mathcalGomathcalM(N) is an injective homomorphism, then there exists f0inmathcalM(N) such that varphi(g)=f0gf01 for all ginmathcalG. We deduce that the abstract commensurator of mathcalM(N) coincides with mathcalM(N).
