On the cohomology of infinite dimensional nilpotent Lie algebras

The author determines the structure of one- and two-dimensional cohomology of infinite dimensional nilpotent Lie algebras with coefficients in the adjoint representation. The results are different from that in finite dimension, because the adjoint representation is not a highest weight representation in infinite dimension.
