The article under review describes the scientific heritage of V. I. Vedernikov (Feb. 11, 1919 -- March 16, 1991). The main topics of research conducted by Vedernikov and reviewed in the article were conformal coverings, generalization of Norden's normalization theory, construction of conjugate connections, contribution to the theory of generalized symmetric spaces \((\varphi\)-spaces), polynomial morphisms and global pairs.
