Abstract: We prove fixed point results for branched covering maps of the plane. For complex polynomials with Julia set these imply that periodic cutpoints of some invariant subcontinua of are also cutpoints of . We deduce that, under certain assumptions on invariant subcontinua of , every Riemann ray to landing at a periodic repelling/parabolic point is isotopic to a Riemann ray to relative to .
