Abstract: To a quiver Q and choices of nonzero scalars qi, non-negative integers alphai, and integers hetai labeling each vertex i, Crawley-Boevey--Shaw associate a "multiplicative quiver variety" mathcalMhetaq(alpha), a trigonometric analogue of the Nakajima quiver variety associated to Q, alpha, and heta. We prove that the pure cohomology, in the Hodge-theoretic sense, of the stable locus mathcalMhetaq(alpha)s is generated as a mathbbQ-algebra by the tautological characteristic classes. In particular, the pure cohomology of genus g twisted character varieties of GLn is generated by tautological classes.

The paper is well-structured and full of nice results. The overall `big picture' is clear from the onset and the paper appears to set the scene for further results in the field via applications of the techniques used in the paper. For a paper that is quite geometric, I found the general setup and proofs easy enough to follow for the vast majority of the paper.
