Abstract: Let be a finite group and be the poset of nontrivial elementary abelian -subgroups of . Quillen conjectured that is nontrivial if is contractible. We prove that for any group admitting a -invariant acyclic -subgroup complex of dimension . In particular, it follows that Quillen's conjecture holds for groups of -rank . We also apply this result to establish Quillen's conjecture for some particular groups not considered in the seminal work of Aschbacher--Smith.
