Abstract: The scale of an endomorphism, , of a totally disconnected, locally compact group is the minimum index , for a compact, open subgroup of . A structural characterization of subgroups at which the minimum is attained is established. This characterization extends the notion of subgroup tidy for from previously understood case when is an automorphism to the case when is merely an endomorphism.
