A correction to Theta series and automorphic forms on GL₂

The proof of Lemma 2 in the author's previous paper [ J. Math. Soc. Japan 24, 638--683 (1972; Zbl 0241.10016)] is not correct if the base field is of characteristic 2. Here another proof which is valid for any characteristic is given.
