Setting-up early computer programs: D. H. Lehmer's ENIAC computation
History of mathematics in the 20th century (01A60) Software, source code, etc. for problems pertaining to number theory (11-04) Congruences; primitive roots; residue systems (11A07) Applications of sieve methods (11N36) Number-theoretic algorithms; complexity (11Y16) History of computer science (68-03)
The authors present a complete reconstruction of Lehmer's ENIAC (Electrical Numerical Integrator And Computer) set-up for computing the exponents of \(p\) modulo \(2\). This program served as an early test program for the ENIAC (1946).
