There are various systems which can be approximately described in the long wave limit by solutions of a KdV equation of the form \[ \partial_T A = \nu_1 \partial^3_X A + \nu_2 A \partial_X A \] with \(\nu_1, \nu_2, T, X \in \mathbb R\) and \(A (X,T) \in \mathbb R\). This paper is concerned with the validity of the KdV approximation for periodic media. For homogeneous model possessing the same resonance structure as it arises in periodic media the authors prove the validity of the KdV approximation by using energy estimates.
