Group codes on certain algebraic curves with many rational points
A new series of group codes is described. The codes are algebraic geometric codes over \(F_ q\) obtained from curves with a large number of \(F_ q\)-rational points (in fact, by applying a result of Weil the authors show that the number of \(F_ q\)-rational points of the curves is maximal with respect to their genera). The dimensions of the codes are found and their minimum distances are estimated. The action of a group S on the curve, its rational points and its rational functions are studied. From this, it follows that the codes are ideals in \(F_ q[S]\), i.e. they are group codes.
