In [Duke Math. J. 1, 137--168 (1935; Zbl 0012.04904)] \textit{L. Carlitz} introduced analogues of the classical Bernoulli numbers for the rational function field \(K={\mathbb F}_q(T)\). In this paper the authors introduce the \textit{truncated Euler-Carlitz numbers} and also the \textit{truncated Euler-Carlitz numbers of the second kind}. The definitions are given in Section 2. These truncated Euler-Carlitz numbers are analogues of hypergeometric Euler numbers. In Section 4 the authors give an explicit expression of hypergeometric Euler-Carlitz numbers (Theorem 1). They also find an explicit expression of the hypergeometric Euler-Carlitz numbers of the second kind (Theorem 2). In Section 5 determinant expressions of Euler-Carlitz numbers and of Euler-Carlitz numbers of the second kind are found (Theorems 3 and 4).
