Abstract: A finite set of distinct vectors mathcalX in the d-dimensional Euclidean space mathbbRd is called an s-distance set if the set of mutual distances between distinct elements of mathcalX has cardinality s. In this paper we present a combined approach of isomorph-free exhaustive generation of graphs and Gr"obner basis computation to classify the largest 3-distance sets in mathbbR4, the largest 4-distance sets in mathbbR3, and the largest 6-distance sets in mathbbR2. We also construct new examples of large s-distance sets for dleq8 and sleq6, and independently verify several earlier results from the literature.

This paper focuses on the problem of determining, given the natural numbers \(d\) and \(s\), the largest finite subsets of vectors in \(\mathbb{R}^d\) for which the set of mutual distances between distinct vectors has cardinality \(s\). More precisely, the authors focus primarly on the case \(d=4\) and \(s=3\), but also on the cases \(d=3\) and \(s=4\), \(d=3\) and \(s=3\), and \(d=2\) and \(s=6\), respectively. The given proofs are based on classical graph generation techniques and on elements of computational commutative algebra. Other related examples are also discussed.
