Richly illustrated, this is a book on Archimedes and his current relevance for a general readership. It contains contributions on Archimedes as an engineer of a pragmatic or military nature, on the results of Archimedes's tombstone, and, in general, on volume computations, on the relevance of some of Archimedes's ideas today (such as his cattle problem, Stomachion puzzle, floating bodies, centers of gravity), Archimedes's relevance in modern ship design, a whole chapter on Archimedes's screw (which shows up in several other chapters as well), as well as Archimedes and the planetarium.
