Rate of approximation of regular convex bodies by convex algebraic level surfaces
The problem of the approximation of convex bodies in the \(d\)-dimensional real space by level of algebraic polynomials is considered. In Section 1, the author introduces the basics notions used in the paper. Also he formulates the basic problems to approximate the boundary of a compact subset of the real \(d\)-dimensional real space: convex approximation, convex homogeneous approximation, homogeneous approximation. Section 2 contains the main results of the paper, where the author proves that for regular convex bodies the approximation rate by convex algebraic surfaces of degree \(n\) is \(1/n\). In addition, if the body satisfies the conditions of \(C^2\)-smoothnesss, the rate of approximation is \(O(1/n^2)\). Section 3 contains the proofs of results from Section 2. Section 4 contains conclusions and 3 open problems.
