Two-dimensional representations of finitely generated free group over an arbitrary field.

Publication:2431160
Working over an arbitrary field, the author gives necessary and sufficient conditions for a two-dimensional representation of a finitely generated free group with given traces and determinants to exist and to be reducible. This generalizes the results of \textit{L. Vaserstein} and \textit{E. Wheland} [Linear Algebra Appl. 281, No. 1-3, 25-31 (1998; Zbl 0944.20028) and ibid. 307, No. 1-3, 145-150 (2000; Zbl 1007.20021)] where the case of two generators was dealt with.
