The author defines and investigates the concept of degenerate Kähler manifold. The study is done by using the theory of singular semi-Riemannian manifolds developed by \textit{D. N. Kupeli} [Geom. Dedicata 23, 259--290 (1987; Zbl 0625.53020)].
