Abstract: We consider the determinants of compressions of Toeplitz operators to finite-dimensional model spaces and establish analogues of the Borodin-Okounkov formula and the strong Szeg"o limit theorem in this setting.

For an inner function \(\vartheta\) on the unit circle, the model space \(K_\vartheta\) is defined by \(K_\vartheta=H^2\ominus\vartheta H^2\). For a function \(a\) in \(L^\infty\), the compressed Toeplitz operator on \(K_\vartheta\) is defined by \[ T_\vartheta(a)f=P_\vartheta(af), \quad f\in K_\vartheta, \] where \(P_\vartheta\) is the orthogonal projection onto \(K_\vartheta\). The author of the paper under review establishes a generalization of the Borodin-Okun'kov formula for the determinant of \(T_\vartheta(A)\) in the case when \(\vartheta\) is a finite Blaschke product. This leads to a generalization of the Szegő limit formula.
