A strategy for detecting extreme eigenvalues bounding gaps in the discrete spectrum of self-adjoint operators
Eigenvalues, singular values, and eigenvectors (15A18) Spectrum, resolvent (47A10) Equations and inequalities involving linear operators, with vector unknowns (47A50) Linear symmetric and selfadjoint operators (unbounded) (47B25) Numerical computation of eigenvalues and eigenvectors of matrices (65F15)
The authors present a procedure for locating the extreme eigenvalues of a Hermitian matrix or a selfadjoint linear operator with discrete spectrum. The algorithm is described and numerical realizations are given.
