Abstract: We study the boundary value problem $-mdiv((|ablau{|}^{p_1(x)-2}+|ablau{|}^{p_2(x)-2})ablau)=lambda|u{|}^{q(x)-2}u$ in $Omega$, $u=0$ on $partialOmega$, where $Omega$ is a bounded domain in $R{R}^N$ with smooth boundary, $lambda$ is a positive real number, and the continuous functions $p_1$, $p_2$, and $q$ satisfy $1<p_2(x)<q(x)<p_1(x)<N$ and $$ for any $$. The main result of this paper establishes the existence of two positive constants $lambd{a}_0$ and $lambd{a}_1$ with $lambd{a}_{0}leqlambd{a}_1$ such that any $lambdain[lambd{a}_1,infty)$ is an eigenvalue, while any $lambdain(0,lambd{a}_0)$ is not an eigenvalue of the above problem.
