Abstract: We generalize Dirichlet's diophantine approximation theorem to approximating any real number alpha by a sum of two rational numbers fraca1q1+fraca2q2 with denominators 1leqq1,q2leqN. This turns out to be related to the congruence equation problem xyequivcpmodq with 1leqx,yleqq1/2+epsilon.
