Solutions of the anisotropic porous medium equation in R^n under an L^1-initial value

Abstract: Consider the anisotropic porous medium equation,

u_{t} = s u m l i m i t s_{i = 1}^{n} (u^{m_{i}})_{x_{i} x_{i}},

where

m_{i} > 0, (i = 1, 2, ..., n)

satisfying

m i n l i m i t s_{1 l e i l e n} m_{i} l e 1,

s u m l i m i t s_{i = 1}^{n} m_{i} > n - 2,

and

m a x l i m i t s_{1 l e i l e n} m_{i} l e f r a c 1 n (2 + s u m l i m i t s_{i = 1}^{n} m_{i}) .

Assuming that the initial data belong only to

L^{1} (R e^{n})

, we establish the existence and uniqueness of the solution for the Cauchy problem in the space,

where

may be arbitrary. We also show a comparison principle for such solutions. Furthermore, we prove that the solution converges to zero in the space

L^{i} n f t y (R e^{n})

as the time goes to infinity.
