Abstract: We present a Pfaffian identity involving elliptic functions, whose rational limit gives a generalization of Schur's Pfaffian identity for Pf ((x_j - x_i)/(x_j + x_i)). This identity is regarded as a Pfaffian counterpart of Frobenius identity, which is an elliptic generalization of Cauchy's determinant identity for det (1/ (x_i + x_j)).

The Pfaffian identies considered in this paper are ones which are analogues of a Frobenius' identity for the determinant of a matrix built out of theta functions. In fact this proof identity can be based on the fact that the functions in question are odd and that they satisfy a quartic relation (the Riemann relation). The Pfaffian identies are associated with skew matrices whose entries are made up of similar functions. The main theorem is a theorem analogous to that of Frobenius but also generalizing a formula of I. Schur. Special cases lead to a number of interesting generalizations of the determination of determinants and the Pfaffians of special matrices.
