Towards a classification of homogeneous tube domains in C^4
Towards a classification of homogeneous tube domains in \(\mathbb C^4\)
Already in 1935 \textit{E. Cartan} classified symmetric bounded domains in all dimensions [Abh. Math. Semin. Univ. Hamb. 11, 116-162 (1935; Zbl 0011.12302)]. In contrast, even today a complete classification of arbitrary homogeneous complex manifolds exists only in low dimensions. For the classification in dimension three see [\textit{J. Winkelmann}, `The classification of three-dimensional homogeneous complex manifold' (1995; Zbl 0823.32017)]. In the article under review the authors classify certain homogeneous domains in \({\mathbb C}^4\). They consider tube domains \(\Omega+i{\mathbb R}^4\) (with \(\Omega\subset{\mathbb R}^4\)) with the following two properties: 1) \(\Omega\) is homogeneous under a group of affine transformations of \({\mathbb R}^4\). 2) The boundary \(\partial\Omega + i{\mathbb R}^4\) contains a CR-hypersurface with non-degenerate Levi form. Using preceding work on affine-homogeneous hypersurfaces in \({\mathbb R}^4\) [\textit{M. Eastwood} and \textit{V. Ezhov}, Proc. Steklov Inst. Math. 235, 57--70 (2001; Zbl 1050.53041)] they obtain a complete classification of such domains. Besides domains which are already well-known they find four ``new homogeneous domains. These new ones do not admit a bounded realization, because each contains a complex line. Using linearization results for automorphism groups of CR-hypersurfaces, the complete automorphism groups of these new domains are determined. Then the structure of these automorphism groups is used to show that these new domains are distinct and not isomorphic to the already known such homogeneous domains.
