The author considers the existence of positive radial solutions of the equation \[ \Delta_mu-K^1(r)u| u| ^{q-2}+K^2(r)u| u| ^{p-2}=0 \] with \(\Delta_mu= \text{div}(| Du| ^{m-2}Du)\). By using a new Emden-Fowler transform, the author gives sufficient conditions on the positive functions \(K^1(r)\) and \(K^2(r)\) for the existence and nonexistence of radial G. S. and S. G. S. of the given solution for \(q<m^*\leq p\) or \(q=m^8\leq p\), where \(m^*=\frac{mn}{m-n}\) is the critical Sobolev exponent, and G. S. means a positive solution \(u(x)\) defined in the whole of \(\mathbb{R}^n\) such that \(\lim_{| x| \to+\infty}u(x)=0\) and S. G. S. means a positive solution \(v(x)\) such that \(\lim_{| x| \to 0}v(x)=0\) and \(\lim_{| x| \to+\infty}v(x)=0\). Sufficient conditions for the existence of radial G. S. and S. G. S. of the equation are also given when \(q<p\leq m^*\) and \(m^*\leq q<p\), respectively.
