Analytic extensions of differentiable functions defined in closed sets.
Verf. definiert zunächst die \(m\)-fache stetige Differenzierbarkeit einer Funktion \(f\) in einer abgeschlossenen Menge \(A\) des \(n\)-dimensionalen euklidischen Raumes \(E_n\) folgendermaßen mittels der \textit{Taylor}schen Formel. Er sagt, \(f=f_0\) ist von der Klasse \(C^m\) in \(A\) in bezug auf die Funktionen \(f_k(\sigma _k\leq m)\), wenn die Funktionen \(f_k=f_{k_1,\dots,k_n}\) in \(A\) definiert sin für alle \(n\)-fachen Indices, deren Indexsumme \(\sigma _k=k_1+\cdots k_n\leq m\) ist, und wenn für irgend zwei Punkte von \(A\) gilt: \[ \begin{gathered} f_{k_1,\dots,k_n}(x'_1,\dots,x'_n)=\sum _{l_1+\cdots +l_n\atop \leq m-(k_1+\cdots +k_n)}\frac {f_{k_1+l_1,\dots,k_n+l_n}(x_1,\cdots,x_n)}{l_1!\dots l_n!}(x_1'-x_1)^{l_1}\dots (x_n'-x_n)^{l_n}\\ +R_{k_1,\dots,k_n}(x'_1,\dots,x_n';x_1,\dots,x_n). \end{gathered} \] Dabei soll das Restglied folgende Eigenschaft besitzen: Zu jedem Punkt \(p^0\) von \(A\) und zu jedem \(\varepsilon >0\) gibt es ein \(\delta >0\), so daß für irgend zwei Punkte \(p\) und \(p'\) von \(A\), deren Entfernung von \(p^0<\delta \) ist, gilt: \[ \left |R_{k_1,\dots,k_n}(p';p)\right |\leq r^{m-\sigma _k}_{pp'}\cdot \varepsilon \] (wobei \(r_{pp'}\) die Entfernung der Punkte \(p,p'\) bedeutet). Ist \(f(x)\) in einem Gebiet definiert, so sind die \(f_k\) die ensprechenden partiellen Ableitungen von \(f\). Verf. beweist nun den folgenden bemerkswerten Satz: Ist \(f=f_0\) von Klasse \(C^m\) (\(m\) endlich oder unendlich) in \(A\) in bezug auf die Funktionen \(f_k\) \((\sigma \leq m)\), dann existiert eine Funktion \(F\) der Klasse \(C^m\) in \(E_n\), so daß \(F\) und seine \(k\)-ten partiellen Ableitungen \((\sigma _k\leq m)\) in \(A\) mit \(f\) bzw. \(f_k\) übereinstimmen, und daß außerdem \(F\) in \(E_n-A\) analytisch ist. Dies wird vom Verf. u. a. noch dahin verallgemeinert, daß \(F\) auch in den isolierten Punkten von \(A\) analytisch wird. Der Beweis beruht zum Teil auf einer auch an sich interessanten Verallgemeinerung des \textit{Weierstraß}schen Approximationssatzes: Es werden stetige Funktionen (mit ihren Ableitungen) in offenen Mengen \(O\) durch analytische Funktionen approximiert, wobei die Approximation bei Annäherung an den Rand von \(O\) immer besser wird.
