Extending rings of Prüfer type in central simple algebras.
While it is well-known that maximal orders over a Dedekind domain are again regular (in a non-commutative sense), it is an open problem whether a similar result holds for Prüfer domains. More precisely, let \(R\) be a Prüfer domain with quotient field \(K\), and let \(A\) be a central simple \(K\)-algebra. Then the question is whether \(R\) extends to a Prüfer ring \(\Lambda\) in \(A\) in the sense of \textit{J. H. Alajbegovic} and \textit{N. I. Dubrovin} [J. Algebra 135, No. 1, 165-176 (1990; Zbl 0718.16023)]. The author proves this for a restricted class of Prüfer domains \(R\). As a corollary, he obtains a non-commutative extension theorem for a class of Prüfer domains considered by \textit{R. W. Gilmer} jun. and \textit{W. J. Heinzer} [J. Algebra 7, 281-302 (1967; Zbl 0156.04304)].
